(posted 14th Dec 2005, 12:42pm - TWIDW post #0363)
THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - 11 Days Until Christmas (Invasion)!
December 14, 2005 - Vol 8, No 50
The weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts worldwide.

Wednesday 14 December:
NRK 2 Norway - 8:05PM - Fanger Av TV-Program
Friday 16 December:
Jimmy (Italy) - 9PM - Dalek
Saturday 17 December:
één Network Belgium - 3:40PM - Aliens Of London
France 4 - 10:25PM - Not Titled Yet (1st Series Finale)
Tuesday 20 December:
BBC Radio 2 8:33PM - Regeneration (documentary on the challenge of introducing a new Doctor to the British public, and on Doctor Who's success in 2005)
Christmas Day:
BBC One 7PM - The Christmas Invasion (world premiere)
BBC Interactive 8PM Attack Of The Graske (interactive episode/game available via the red button on TV in the UK)
Boxing Day:
CBC Canada 8PM - The Christmas Invasion
New Years Day:
BBC Three 7PM - The Christmas Invasion
BBC Interactive 8PM Attack Of The Graske (another chance to play the game)
11 days till the UK premiere of The Christmas Invasion, 12 days till
the Canadian premiere. The excitement is building in the UK, with 2
well made teasers and a 30 second trailer broadcast on BBC One and
Two so far (see them online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho ). The
British press saw the episode on 12 December and Parliament saw the
episode on 13 December, so leaks about the plot are filtering around
the internet and in British newspapers - if you fear spoilers,
you're in for a rough couple of weeks. Doctor Who is up against
Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire on ITV1, rather than
stronger competition like Coronation Street or Emmerdale. There is
every reason to think that a very large audience will tune in for
David Tennant's first full length (a full 60 minute) episode as the
Doctor. And if you have the BBC's interactive service in the UK
(most but not all digital viewers have access), you can click on the
red button at 8PM or later on Christmas Day to play "Attack Of The
Graske", an interactive adventure starring David Tennant and the
person playing.
BBC 7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7 begins airing a different Doctor Who
Christmas story this Saturday at 6:30PM and 12:30AM GMT. "The Chimes
Of Midnight", a Big Finish Doctor Who audio drama starring Paul
McGann and India Fisher, will air over 4 Saturdays in the same time
slot where 4 previous McGann/Fisher Doctor Who audios have aired.
Conflicting information on whether the story will air over 4 weeks
or whether it will be pre-empted on New Years Eve. We'll know in a
few days about that matter. Episodes can be heard live online
through the website and through the Listen Again feature afterwards.
If you missed Shada or My Life As A Dalek - they remain on Listen
Again only until Saturday 17 December.
BBC Radio 2 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2 premieres its latest Doctor
Who documentary - Regeneration - this Tuesday at 8:33PM GMT. If
you miss it live, that's the advantage of Listen Again.
BBC Three http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree will encore "The Christmas
Invasion" on Sunday New Years Day at 7PM GMT. This will be the first
repeat of the special episode, and the longest lag between UK first
run and repeat to date (7 days). At 8PM that night viewers will be
able to get to "Attack Of The Graske" via the red button.
Italian channel Jimmy http://www.jimmy140.it has started giving Italian titles for Doctor Who episodes, effective immediately. We will use the Italian titles. In Italy, 2 parters have the same name for both parts.
France 4 http://www.france4.tv still hasn't given a French language title to Bad Wolf / The Parting of the Ways, which premieres this Saturday at 10:25PM CET. The season's really flown by in France, since they aired 2 episodes a week. Here's hoping for a repeat run on a channel that more French viewers receive.
BFBS 2 and BFBS Navy also complete their repeat run of Doctor Who
Series One this weekend. It is likely that The Christmas Invasion
will air on that service for the British military soon after its UK
broadcast.
BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca is changing their schedule in Canada. The weeknight Midnight EST broadcasts end on 23 December. Weeknight episodes will only air at 5AM EST the week between Christmas and New Years. Beginning 2 January, weeknight broadcasts are at 2 and 5AM EST. Weekend broadcasts remain at 2AM EST. This weekend The Curse of Fenric and Survival air, the final new to BBC Kids stories for the moment. After airing these stories, BBC Kids will have shown ever fully color Doctor Who story they could get the rights to at least once.
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
